Three different theatre versions of the F Scott Fitzgerald classic The Great Gatsby will be seen later in 2012, it has been announced.

The Great Gatsby will open at Wilton’s Music Hall in April before Gatz’s opens at the Noel Coward Theatre in the West End in June. Lastly, a musical take on the novel will open at north London’s King’s Head Theatre in August.

First published in 1925, Fitzgerald’s book is regarded as a literary classic and one of the great American novels. Set in Long Island, an affluent area east of Manhattan, the story is mainly about the dreams and delusions that the nouveau riche had in the 1920s.
The musical is to be directed by Linnie Reedman, the Young Vic Genesis director, with Joe Evans, an award-winning composer lined up to pen the production’s score. As of yet, casting for the production at Wilton hasn’t been decided.

The announcement follows the six-hour-long off-Broadway production that became a hit in the last months of 2011. Recently, The Great Gatsby’s popularity has soared – which is mostly down to a new-spin off book that tells of the fortunes of Pamela, Daisy Buchanan’s daughter.

As well as this, Australian movie director Baz Luhrmann, the man behind Moulin Rouge and Romeo & Juliet, has also began production on his new film adaptation that stars UK actress Carey Mulligan and Spider-man actor Tobey Maguire. Leonardo DiCaprio will star as the titular Jay Gatsby with a release scheduled for Christmas this year.

George Michael been forced to postpone a string of concerts, including a couple that were scheduled for this weekend in the Welsh capital Cardiff, after being rushed to hospital to receive treatment for pneumonia.

The 48-year-old singer was meant to perform in Vienna on Monday but cancelled just two hours before the concert was due to start. According to reports, Michael is being treated in the Austrian capital. Concerts in Vienna, Strasbourg and Cardiff will be rescheduled confirmed his publicist Connie Filippello, who said that the exact dates will be provided once they are available.

Michael’s European tour, entitled Symphonica, kicked off in the Czech capital Prague back in August and is meant to include at least 47 dates. He previously claimed that his gigs in 2008 would be the last live shows he would perform before retiring, but announced Symphonica after serving a prison term in 2010 for crashing his car while high on cannabis.

At the press launch to promote Symphonica in May, the Careless Whisper star told reporters that he felt re-energised after his recent troubles and was ready to surprise the world with his newly-reformed personality, adding that he felts he has started being more true to himself. Earlier this month, a Royal Opera House gig was performed to raise funds for the Aids Foundation set up by Sir Elton John’s Aids Foundation.

Mick Jagger, the famous frontman of the Rolling Stones, has sung in Sanskrit as part of recordings for a new LP by the supergroup, which also stars Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman.

Jagger provides vocals for Satyameva Jayate (translated as Truth alone triumphs), which is the second single about to be released by SuperHeavy – a supergroup containing Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, Cornish soul sensation Joss Stone, and reggae/hip hop star Damian Marley.

As mentioned, Satyameva Jayate will be put out as the band’s second single. According to industry insiders, Superheavy’s debut LP should be released next month.

Dave explained to me that the group wanted my voice on this album and that it should be a great Indian-style song too, explained AR Rahman. It’s long been a dream for me to help raise one of Indian culture’s most important morals, Satyameva Jayate, and turn it into a song, the star continued before calling the recording historic.

Jagger put the band together in May, at the time saying that he wanted to make sure a convergence of varying musical styles can be presented. It really is far different from anything else that myself or the others have been involved in before, explained Jagger to music publication Rolling Stone.

The album is very wide-ranging – with everything from reggae to power ballads and Indian songs in Urdu covered, the icon concluded.

Hollywood film icon John Malkovich, dance troupe Flawless, and Pub Landlord comedian Al Murray will feature at Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year.

There are 2,542 shows scheduled to be staged by around 21,000 performers at what is the world’s biggest arts festival. For the first time in history, cabaret will feature as it was added to the long list of music, comedy, theatre, and dance performances.

Kath Mainland, the Festival Fringe Society’s chief executive told how 2011’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe line-up looks, and is, better than it has ever been before. She continued by explaining that although the event is exciting every time, this year is set to be something special given the combination of creative and talented individuals that have chosen to bring their work to Edinburgh.

The Fringe can be whatever they want to it to be, Mainland added, and the Fringe Festivals still remains the number one choice for performers, creators, artists, and producers to bring their work.

Malkovich is set to direct Julian Sands in a theatre production of a play that celebrates the legendary Harold Pinter’s work. A string of top names in the world of comedy are also set to return at various stages of the month-long festival. As mentioned, Al Murray will be there and is joined by the likes of Ed Byrne. Street dance group Flawless, remembered by the nation for reaching the final of 2009’s edition of Britain’s Got Talent, will return and a show from Paul Daniels and long-time partner Debbie McGee is also pencilled in.

Rap star Kanye West has admitted that he has contemplated suicide in the past. The self-acclaimed ‘soldier for culture’, however, reconsidered, saying that making a meaningful contribution to society is more important, as was his responsibility to his supporters. He added that he felt that he could be the voice for the unheard masses.

The subject of suicide has been reflected in a recent song ‘Power’, which has lyrics that leave an astute listener with little doubt of his intentions. That song’s remix is among 10 tracks that have been released for free distribution by Mr West.

All was revealed at a pre-screening of his film Runaway, in Los Angeles, where he is credited as the director. The 35 minute film is narrated by rapper Nicki Minaj, and includes performances by Elton John, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Fergie and John Legend on the soundtrack.

The movie is to premiere on American cable TV channels this weekend and there is no surprise that the movie also features portions of nine new Kayne West songs, as his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, is due for release on 22 November.

As he shared insights with an all-star audience that included celebrities such as Morgan Spurlock, Ryan Phillippe and Pete Wentz, he went on to say that although there had been tough times when he considered the worst, he was strong and would not give up on life again. He concluded proceedings by revealing that he had been able to discover his creative talent by thinking like a five year old.

After fainting in the middle of a London shopping spree last week, it seems Katie Waissel might be back on her toes and feeling alright. She appeared smiling and fit at Wembley Studios for rehearsals despite passing out on a X Factor excursion.

A friend of Simon Cowell’s, Sir Philip Green, allowed finalists from the X Factor free reign of his Oxofrd Circus TopShop last week but during the episode the highly criticized contestant collapsed without warning. The producers suggested she consult a physician although Ms Waissel believes it may have only been due to low sugar levels in her blood.

The incident occurred after Ms Waissel was charged for sowing a rumor that she and fellow competitor Matt Cardle had slept together. Critics claim she may have invented the story to keep her slot in the contest. Others state that some of the contestants believe she’s simply enjoying the attention of being in the spotlight with the show’s prospected favorite. Some believe the recent criticism may have been the cause for her collapse.

This isn’t the first time Ms Waissel has had health issues or suffered criticism either. Her mother told Heat magazine that she had been on antiobiotics for a sore throat during a visit home after a tough start at the beginning of the month when her cover of I Would Rather Go Blind by Etta James had not been received well with the audience or judges.

A close source to Ms Waissel said her parents had phoned the producers over the situation and were concerned that the contest was taking a serious toll on her. Although both Matt Cardle and Katie Waissel had stated that the rumors were not true, Ms Waissel has yet to be let off the hook by critics.

In recent years, many holidaymakers have turned away from the travel agent in favour of the internet.

However, the popularity of online searches has been curtailed somewhat in recent times, as the ongoing economic downturn and business closures, coupled with natural events such as the Iceland ash cloud and earthquakes have seen customers searching for greater protection from physical and financial disasters.

While more than a dozen British travel agents have folded in 2010, their absence is beginning to be felt by travellers, who are becoming increasingly less protected when they choose to do it alone. The attractions of holiday protection, nominally under either of the two regulatory bodies in Britain – ATOL (Air Travel Organiser’s Licence) and ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents), can ultimately end up being a sound investment. The minimal per centage placed on top of ticketing being a small price to pay for peace of mind when abroad.

For anyone who is debating the pros and cons of individual versus agency booking, a new website has been developed to provide an insight into the industry, its regulations, and its goals. Travel-agency.co.uk introduces the services offered by one of the world’s leading institutions, with an emphasis on travel agents UK.

Use a travel agency whenever you want to organise flights, book car rentals, find hotel rooms, enjoy concerts and much more. When on holiday, the last thing you want to have to worry about is your airport transfer, so head online and find out why a travel agent can make all the difference to your next trip.

The masked man at the eye of the Top Gear storm has been given the boot.

Jeremy Clarkson, who presents the show along with Richard Hammond and James May, made the news official during an interview with community service Witney TV in his local Oxfordshire.

Clarkson claimed that he felt that the Stig had been hurtful, citing hours spent together as perhaps little more than a pretense to the upcoming autobiography of Ben Collins, 33, who has been officially named as the Stig.

In what had become a case of national interest, the bosses of Top Gear at the BBC has sought to have an injunction on Collins releasing the book, and making his identity pubic, as they argued that his contracted clearly said that his anonymity was part of the show’s conditions. The Stig, who grew to celebrity status among fans of the series, had already developed a considerable fan base but his access to advertising and corporate revenue was limited by keeping his true identity secret. So much so that he was paid a fraction of what Clarkson earn each week from appearances and endorsements, the book one of his view ways to expand.

The unveiling of the Bristol-based Collins, puts an end to seven years of gossip and speculation over who the Stig actually was, with Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton jokingly unmasked on the show. Clarkson has said there is a long list of applicants for the job, adding that he was too old for the position.

The Stag Party – the last hurrah of bachelorhood and traditional a chance for friends to send off their soon to be married mates with one more embarrassing event.

One Stag Party that is sure to be a highlight on the hedonist’s calendar is the upcoming celebration of Russell Brand, especially after Noel Gallagher announced he will be attending.

Brand, who will tie the knot with pop princess Katy Perry in India later this year, is renowned for his debauchery, and anyone looking at ideas for organising their own stag party can probably only imagine with envy the antics planned. On the subject of organising your own, a new website has been developed devoted to creating that momentous finale to single life, with stag-parties.co.uk offering up a host of suggestions, tips and ideas to make your friends special day that little bit more memorable.

Apparently it’s not enough to just tie the groom-to-be to a lamppost naked and covered in Clingfilm anymore these days. Today’s to-dos are expected to be a first class riot of travel and adventure, where actually retaining some memory of what goes on is now considered important. The stag night has frequently evolved into a stag weekend, with trips abroad all the rage for modern stag parties.

While Blackpool, Manchester and Newcastle still remain firm local favourites, it has become almost as easy to wing your way to Barcelona, Amsterdam of Paris for that additional touch of class and adventure, while those with deep pockets can spend up large in Vegas or New York for the ultimate weekend. A word of warning though, make sure that wherever you go you do dress up and respect the local culture – and that they’ll let you in – as history’s most famous landmarks are unlikely to be welcoming of boozed-up Brits in football shirts.

The website also offers up suggestions such as t-shirts or fancy dress for a touch of humour, while activities such as quad biking, paint balling, clay pigeon shooting and cart racing have all become increasingly popular.
