Some of the eagerly-awaited details of the royal wedding between Kate Middleton and Prince William have been revealed by St James’s Palace. Apparently at her own request, Miss Middleton will arrive at the April 29 ceremony in a common car before being whisked away after the event in a fairytale glass carriage.

Kate, who is the daughter of an air hostess, reportedly said she wanted to arrive at St Paul’s Cathedral in such unassuming style as she wanted to put off the lavishness of the royal wedding for as long as possible. The couple, who finally got engaged while on holiday last October, said they chose St Paul’s due to its long royal history and its striking elegance.

The palace has revealed that the Archbishop of Canterbury will perform the historic ceremony before the couple return in their carriage to Buckingham Palace. As the day has been declared as a national holiday throughout the UK, it is expected that the crowds lining the streets will rival those seen at the wedding between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

Once Kate and Wills arrive at Buckingham Palace, a lavish reception will be hosted by Her Majesty the Queen. They will then be treated to an evening of dinner and dancing in a private affair with friends and family.

It is also likely that the adored couple will also appear on the royal balcony for a public kiss, much like that seen with Charles and Diana. Miss Middleton was given Diana’s old sapphire and diamond engagement ring by William when he proposed.

Hull City Council is investigating the potential of generating power from solar panels placed atop carpark roofs.

The move follows a similar, highly successful operation at Messe Frankfurt and could help power council buildings while saving money. Surplus energy can also be sold into the National Grid after the government’s recent granting of permission to local authorities to re-sell electricity from renewable sources.

Hull City Council has reportedly identified four carparks as possible locations for the solar program, with a feasibility study into the initiative now being carried out. The council has been looking at alternate energy sources, and the new regulations allowing surplus energy sales make the move both environmentally and budget friendly. With recent budgetary constraints limiting local council expenditure, provision of renewable energy is seen as a lucrative proposition, in addition to enhancing the reputation of the city as a centre of excellence for the trend. Initial funding for the scheme is likely to come from the central government, though analysts expect the scheme to be self-funding within a decade, allowing an estimated £1.5 million each year to be slashed from the council’s£9 million energy bill.

The success of the photovoltaic system at Messe Frankfurt, launched last year and already expanded, has led to the creation of a new citizen and employee-owned solar station on the roof of the exhibition group’s Rebstock multi-storey car park. Built in conjunction with Mainova and the Sonneninitiative EV association, the 8,700sqm module area is capable of harvesting 750,000 kilowatt hours per annum, enough energy to power 250 homes, while reducing some 560 tonnes of carbon dioxide gases that would be otherwise used through fossil fuels.

Last week’s Britain’s Got Talent saw the unlikely reappearance of the magic trick, with Flute Magic hypnotising judges and audiences. The real-life married couple of Claire and Clive Hodgson brought back to the stage and screen an art of trickery that many thought had seen its last days.

However, thanks to a new website from popular developer ASAP, card tricks are set to become the next big thing all over again. One visit to cardtricks.org.uk will show you all the supplies and tools needed to become a magician.

Whether you are a budding croupier, a magician in training or just someone with a love of cards, there is sure to be something to interest you on the card trick website. With books such as Roberto Giobbi’s Card College to DVD’s showing you how to perform the most outlandish of acts, the site has it all.

There are encyclopaedias dedicated to card tricks and even customer-designed and trick decks, along with special one-off novelties like the current feature product – the Card Thru Card trick deck.

In this unique magical trick, the performer offers up a spread deck of cards, revealing both the front and back to the audience. A spectator, or victim, is chosen and they remove one card and place their signature on its face. This signed card is the put face down onto the table where the artists draws a card of his own – and proceeds to push it directly through the middle of the spectators card.

The magician’s card melts into the performers, leaving the former’s card on the table face down and the signed performer’s card in the hands of the artist. You too can do this for just £8.99.

The weekend’s big game may have been bad news for Manchester United players, but fans who watched at the pub were treated to a whole new level of sports entertainment.

The Man Utd vs Chelsea match, which saw the Londoners come away from Old Trafford with a much-deserved 2-1 victory, was shown in 3D at 1,000 pubs across the country.

Many of the nation’s leading watering holes have splashed out thousands of pounds to purchase the latest in television technology, with specially designed 3D TV screens brought in from Asia for the new venture. The public reception has been one of eager anticipation, and many reservable areas for the 3D viewing were booked out ahead of the Saturday game.

The hugely popular Walkabout chain, an Australian themed pub group, was showing the enhanced match at 35 outlets across Britain, with early indicators suggesting that ticket sales for the 3D areas will likely be around £6 or £7.

The initiative will inject much-needed capital into the UK pub trade, which has been hit hard by the recession and ban on smoking. According to statistics from the British Beer and Pub Association, more than 50 bars closed every week for the first six months of 2009.

The prospect of watching live sport, especially in 3D, is seen as vital to getting people back into licensed establishments rather than down to the off-license for a six-pack to take home.
