Clever teenager dies after drunk chalet roof jump
A talented British teenager has died at an exclusive French ski resort after trying to jump from the roof of one chalet to another while drunk. Edward De Nunzio, 18, was pronounced dead at the Alpine resort in Courchevel on Saturday night after he slipped and fell from the top of a cabin.
His friend, who was with him at the time, also had to be rescued from the roof of a chalet by firefighters. Both had been drinking heavily at the resort, which is popular with celebrities like David Beckham.
Edward, whose father is the director of Boots and the former chief executive of supermarket giant Asda, was on a gap year after receiving impressive A-Level results at a school in York. The family lives in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, and is said to be devastated by the tragic news.
A spokeswoman for the local police confirmed that Edward died after trying to jump from a chalet roof while drunk. It is thought that his father travelled to the resort on Sunday to collect his body.
De Nunzio – who was due to return to England this year in order to take a degree in geography at University College London – had almost finished a ski instructing course at the exclusive resort. His family described him as a “talented young man”.
