Designer Puppies Sold Online With Fake Papers

Posted on December 15, 2009

UK pet-lovers are being asked not to purchase inexpensive pedigrees via the internet as the RSPCA believes several thousands dogs are “counterfeit” breeds which very well carry diseases.

The animal protection charity claims that all over Britain, customers eager to own a pet are being cheated by dog breeders who provide forged pedigree papers as well as bogus vaccination forms when purchasing these dogs at vastly reduced prices online.

They recommend that customers should always check paperwork pertaining to the animal’s vaccination and to ensure that the pet has been protected from ordinary pet diseases such as hepatitis and parvovirus.

RSPCA spokeswoman Sue Royle told reporters that forged vaccination documents are a problem because of the conditions in which the puppies are bred in, adding there is a heightened risk of diseases when several dogs live in cramped and over crowded spaces.

The organisation conducted a survey amongst 3,000 people revealing that almost 33% of them would be ready to buy a puppy online.

The Kennel Club, the biggest organisation solely dedicated to the welfare and health of dogs in the UK, claimed that fake designer dogs being readily available online was a growing problem.

According to RSPCA secretary Caroline Kisko, the charity has see an increasing number of websites popping up and featuring discounted puppies being sold with forged pedigrees and very often amongst offering breeds which are the latest trend.

Ms Kisko said that sadly, the vast majority of these puppies will have been bred on cramped puppy farms and more than likely to suffer some kind of long term health issue.
