Evening For Troops At Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House has revealed that it is planning to present a special free evening of performances including ballet and opera for members of the armed forces.
The event will be held on February 14 and will be hosted by actress Joanna Lumley.
The special evening will feature a performance by the Royal Ballet as well as excerpts from opera La Boheme.
Veterans and serving soldiers will be welcomed at the venue which wants to show its support for the new Tickets for Troops charity.
Royal Opera House chief executive Tony Hall said he was thrilled by the initiative.
Ekaterina Siurina and Charles Castronovo, both internationally acclaimed opera singers, will be featured at the performance of La Boheme.
The second performance will be a ballet presentation by the Tales of Beatrix Potter danced by The Royal Ballet.
Joanna Lumley, who said she was honoured to have been chosen to host the event, added that it was very important for the Royal Opera House to welcomed new audiences, especially families.
Miss Lumley said she was delighted by the opportunity presented to the Royal Opera House to demonstrate its appreciation to members of the British Armed Forces and offer their families the chance to enjoy the magic and spectacle of this extraordinary venue as well as the productions they put on.
Tickets For Troops is a special charitable initiative which has been launched to honour the past and present contribution of the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq by offering free tickets to large cultural and sporting events.
