Flavio Briatore looking into legal action against Piquet family

Posted on January 06, 2010

Flavio Briatore has announced that he’s considering legal action against Formula One driver Nelson Piquet Jr and his father.

He said that it would be very likely, when asked by the media if he intended to sue his former protégé. He added that he won’t forget so easily what he considers the bad done to him.

Briatore, the former team leader at F1 outfit Renault, was declared guilty by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council a few months ago of having demanded Nelson Piquet Jnr to voluntarily  his car during the Singapore Grand Prix in 2008 so that Fernando Alonso could win the race.

The decision meant that Briatore was barred from all Formula One involvement.

But this week, the Paris High Court decided that the FIA couldn’t impose such a sanction because Briatore didn’t have a FIA licence.

Briatore has threatened legal action in the past. Following the scandal revelation last September, there was a statement released by Renault F1 in which the Italian team leader pointed his finger at Piquet Jnr’s father, the former F1 world champion Nelson Piquet Snr, of extortion and blackmail.

Meanwhile, Briatore once again stipulated that the previous stance of the FIA in respect to his person—concerning his banning from F1—stemmed from personal issues between himself and Max Mosley, the former FIA president.

He believes he will have a better relationship with the F1 governing body under Jean Todt, its newly appointed president.
