Manic monday to see six hundred million in revenue
Considering how cold it is outside, and how busy the crowds can be, it’s no surprise that more people are choosing to do their Christmas shopping online.
More than most other days however, today is that special day that the majority of us dedicate to completely finishing the job, as online shoppers should spend and astounding £537million on gifts, which by far makes it the busiest net shopping day throughout the whole course of the year.
Retailers have rushed to call it Manic Monday, while expecting spending to hit £22.4million per hour, according to price comparison website Kelkoo. Conducting its own research, Visa Europe predicted transactions would hit their peak during the traditional lunch hour, 1pm to 2pm, before then again rising at around 7pm outside of standard working hours. All in all, The company has discovered that 74% of consumers today plan to buy presents and gifts online, with 30% intending to do more online shopping that in 2009.
Trying to understand more about the situation, Argos has suggested that the main reason for today’s rush is the fact that it comes right after the last salary before Christmas while still allowing enough time for delivery. Speaking on behalf of the catalogue giant, spokesman Matt Roberts commented how top sellers behind the force of Manic Monday would mainly be the audio gadgets like the iPod Touch and Nano, as well as Toy Story characters for the younger ones, which includes the likes of Buzz Lightyear and the comical Mr Potato Head. For gamers, the new Call of Duty and Gran Turismo games will feature heavily.
