Royal wedding handset comes to Carphone Warehouse

Posted on March 24, 2011

If you’re not already completely sick of hearing about the royal wedding, another piece of commemorative merchandise has been rolled out to help you remember. While the usual crockery fills up the shelves in Asda and Sainsbury’s, Carphone Warehouse has taken wedding fever a step further by unveiling a Wills and Kate mobile.

Alcatel have released a Smartphone handset cover through the mobile phone retailer, featuring the Union Jack on the front and the couple’s initials on the back. It also sports the April 29 date on which Prince William will make Kate Middleton his bride.

As well as the patriotic outside cover, real royal crazies can also enjoy some additional software features, such as a wedding march ring tone as Wills and Kate wallpaper. The item is being retailed at less than £15 on a pay as you go contract.

A spokesman for Carphone Warehouse described the new phone as a fun creation that taps into the spirit of national pride that is sweeping the country. He added that he’s sure the item will be popular with customers as it is different and affordable.

In a trend not seen with the last royal wedding between Prince Charles and Lady Diana, this year’s memorabilia has a distinctly high-tech feel. As well as the Alcatel handset, Smartphone users can also enjoy royal wedding apps that count down to the April 29 ceremony and stream up to date news on the subject.
