A decision by a federal judge is preliminary victory for the London-based EMI, which has initiated a lawsuit against Bluebeat.com, an online radio station downloading site. EMI has alleged that the site had no permission to sell Beatles music and other major acts.

Earlier this week, the entire back catalogue of The Beatles was made available for purchase online, with each individual song being available for 25 cents.

BlueBeat.com, an American- based download website was making the tracks available for purchase, which also included the Fab Four’s recently launched series of remastered albums.

But it was not clear at the time whether Apple Corps and EMI had agreed to let the Beatle’s material be distributed on the website.

It has been a long running speculation that the music of The Beatles will be made available to purchase on iTunes, but an agreement between the band, their representatives and the online music shop store is yet to be worked out.

An Apple Corps representative had apparently told Wired.com that she didn’t believe BlueBeat.com had obtained the permission to offer The Beatles’ music.

BlueBeat.com had also made AC/DC tracks available.

Discussing it the online radio business, BlueBeat.com explains via the website they are not satisfied with the present situation of online digital radio. It says that music services are plenty with low quality mp3 encodings and expensive subscription fees. They said that every time they see online music services offer 50 or 60generic radio stations, they sit gather with their music team and imagine new themes like 1 Hit Wonders, Chillosophy, and Bitchin’ Tunes, to contribute to over 400 choices.

The young girl who was the source of inspiration for John Lennon to author The Beatles’ famous ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ has passed aged 46 of an immune system disease, it has been confirmed.

Lucy Vodden, hailing from Surbiton in London passed away last week, Tuesday September 22.

Her passing was formerly announced by The St Thomas Lupus Trust, who had been caring for the woman.

Vodden and John Lennon’s first son Julian, had been school friends. The girl had returned home in 1966 from nursery carrying a picture of herself with diamond-shaped eyes. Lennon was immediately inspired by the drawing and wrote the song, which eventually popped up on The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album. But, upon the track’s launch in 1967, many fans presumed the song was making a reference to an acid ‘trip’ because of the obtuse lyrics and LSD being an acronym for the title. For this reason, the track was initially banned from the BBC for its alleged references to a hallucinogenic.

After getting the news that Vodden was stricken by Lupus, Julian Lennon contacted her to wish her well. Lennon son eventually sent her garden centre vouchers since she loved spending time in her garden.

Angie Davidson, The St Thomas Lupus Trust campaign director, paid tribute to the woman.

She said that everyone at the Louise Coote Lupus Unit was shocked by the passing of Lucy. She added that it was so sad that Lucy has lost the battle she fought with courage for so long.

Some four decades after Beatlemania first struck the planet, CD shops are jumping with joy at the idea of the largest-ever invasion by the Fab Four.

14 reworked and brought up to modern standings Beatles albums are about to swamp shops everywhere this weekend.

And the band are also predicted to top the computer game charts with the new Beatles Rock Band.

This is Beatles Day – when the re-mastered studio albums are up for grabs after months of work and lots of speculation.

Some say that Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band will easily op the charts, with Revolver and Abbey Road in close second and third places.

These fresh releases are expected to win one of the globe’s most popular and influential bands hoards of new fans.

Online retailer Amazon.co.uk has claimed that pre-orders of a box set version of the band’s stereo albums, at £170 a pop, are going through the roof.

All of the Beatles original albums as well as Yellow Submarine and the Magical Mystery Tour the soundtracks plus the Past Masters book of singles – absent from albums – have all been reworked.

Because of the 60’s archaic studio techniques, these re-mastered are promising a true rediscovery of the Fab Four. Imagine listening to a clear, full spectrum version of I am the Walrus boasting great quality bass.

This is the first time the songs have been worked since the 1987 CD issues.

It is hoped the reworked albums will prove to have the sound cherished by younger fans as well as old ones.

Even the very youthful music magazine NME, aimed at the late teens to early twenties market, proudly displays 13 different Beatles-themed covers this week.

Paul McCartney has recently told the media that he wants The Beatles material to be available for downloads.

The Fab Four’s body of work has been remarkably absent from official download websites, but the famous bassist and songwriter claimed he and the band (I guess he means Ringo) are expecting to see them available online. McCartney has been blaming the record label EMI for the delay.

Sir Paul has said that they were having problems with iTunes. Actually, the real culprit had been EMI with downloading. He also explained that’s how he like it since many people chose this method to gain access to music.

However, the former Beatle suggested that the band managed to get avoid the problem by getting involved with the new ‘The Beatles: Rock Band’ game, which is scheduled for released tomorrow, September 9.

McCartney claimed that they managed to ‘kind of’ bypassed the download problems because people will be able to do it in ‘Rock Band’. He also added that he liked using ‘shady methods’ stating that it was fun to find a way to do something when you’re told you can’t do it.

Sir Paul also said that is current top score at the Beatles games is ‘0’, since he still has to start playing the game.

The BBC is set to air never-before-heard recordings and conversations from the Beatles’ last Abbey Road sessions. The documentary is scheduled for broadcast next month during a week of programmes about the Fab Four.

The new documentary, called The Beatles on Record, will be narrated only using recordings of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, as well as Sir George Martin, their producer.

Following their musical journey from 1963’s Please Please Me, their debut long player, to Abbey Road, the documentary discloses how the Beatles developed their musical style and songwriting skills.

More than 60 songs are featured on The Beatles on Record, as well as rare photos and footage and outtakes of in-studio casual chat from their final Abbey Road sessions in London. Although Let It Be was the final album released, it was recorded before Abbey Road.

Directed by Bob Smeato, the documentary will be aired on BBC2 next month coinciding with the release of the Beatles Rock Band computer game and the Beatles re-mastered back catalogue.

The documentary also includes the first TV showing of The Beatles: The First US Visit. The film, from the Maysles brothers, charts the band’s American debut in 1964.

Paul McCartney proved to the world that he’s still capable of grandiosity. Last Saturday night, at the FedEx field outside Washington DC, Sir McCartney sang 21 Beatles songs during a three hour lovefest which spanned his long career.

The former Beatle is the definition of a legend, but this image quickly fades once he starts chatting, showing his capacity to be the friendliest rock star on Earth.

Why the 67-year-old musical god continues to tour huge venues around the world? He’s damn good at it, and with the exception of some pyrotechnics during “Live and Let Die,” he does it in a simple fashion void of gimmicks.

After noting that the Beatles’ first U.S. concert more than four decades ago was in Washington, McCartney added, “We’ve got bigger amps now!”

Time has taken its toll on the voices of his contemporaries. Some have lost the magic behind their voice, but Sir Paul’s remain crisp and tuned to perfection; he belted out “Got to Get You Into My Life” with passion to spare and was flawless during “Blackbird.”

He masterly played with acoustic and electric guitar, piano, ukulele, mandolin, along with his trademark bass, all through which he maintained a virtuous flow between Beatles, Wings and his solo material.

Another reason why McCartney is still at it is that he clearly enjoys it. He fooled around with the audience, endlessly pointing to individual spectators and jumping from centre stage to his piano.

Most importantly, McCartney has a sense of responsibility towards his fans. The last performing Beatle has become the embodiment of dozens of hits, a cultural phenomenon and the world’s most important rock band. Paul McCartney is not only a musician, he IS Rock and Roll.

We would like to thank www.washingtonpost.com for quotes used in this article.

Pedestrians passing by the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York were surprised earlier this week when they saw Sir Paul McCartney on the building’s rooftop, in a gig that was reminiscent of the last live performance by the Beatles – on the roof of the Apple building, four decades ago.

Sixty-seven-year-old McCartney played for 20 minutes on the Ed Sullivan Theater marquee, which was part of his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. This was his first time appearing as a guest on Letterman’s popular chat show.

Thousands of passers-by stopped in front of the theater to watch McCartney’s mini-concert, which included such popular songs as Coming Up, Band On The Run, Helter Skelter, Let Me Roll It and Back in the USSR.

On February 9, 1964, the Beatles made their debut on US television on the Ed Sullivan Show. Sir Paul described to Letterman his memories of the nerve-racking experience waiting for the curtain to rise.

He said: “The audience was out there and we were very new to America, loving it but a little bit scared. I had to do Yesterday – my song – on my own, and I’d never done this, I’d always had the band with me, but they said ‘You’re doing Yesterday’.”

McCartney went on to say: “So I’m standing there and the floor manager, the guy on the curtain, came up and said: ‘Are you nervous?’ I said no, and he said: ‘You should be – there’s 73 million people watching’.”

McCartney was in New York for the opening of his US tour.
