Get ready to see lots of waves this weekend.

The usual ocean front tranquility at Ocean Terminal is set to set aside as it will play host to a noisy power boat race – plus thousands of spectators.

A stage of the Zapcat Racing championship is scheduled take place at Ocean Terminal tomorrow.

It will witness 25 fast vessels crank up speeds of up to 50 mph in the Forth in one of the most exciting events to happen at the waterfront yet.

Admission is free, and it is hoped the race will pull in the extra festival goers present in the Capital.

Ocean Terminal’s deputy centre manager Michelle Macleod said: “We’re delighted to welcome the first ever Zapcat racing event in Edinburgh.

“This is a great outdoor experience which Ocean Terminal is ideally suited to host.

“We will have quayside viewing areas in place to accommodate spectators who will get a close-up view of the action.”

Each race boat has a two man crew and can pull in excess of 3G in some turns, like a Formula One car.

Ex Zapcat racer and managing director of Zapcat Racing Ltd Martin Jupp said the event would be an enticing spectacle for spectators, even for those who are new to the sport.

“This will be a really thrilling event which will be even more exciting as it takes place in the midst of the Edinburgh Festival,” he said.

The Thames: one of the most famous rivers in the world.

It captures most people’s imagination as it weaves it way through London passing at the feet of the Houses of Parliament and under Tower Bridge.

Taking a guided tour along the River Thames is probably the best way to see and learn about the beautiful historic capital city. Whether you’re first time visitor in London or a resident, there’s always something new that’s best appreciated from this lovely river.

River tour tickets can be bought online before you visit London and you can save a little money by doing so. But word to the wise; it may be better to purchase your ticket directly on site as gale force winds might discourage a few timid sailors.

I recommend you purchase your ticket on the day you wish to visit directly at the riverside and try saving some money by combining the tour with sightseeing options at various stops such as the Tower of London and Greenwich. It’s also a good idea to purchase tickets that give access to the boat the entire day, getting on and stopping where ever and when ever you please.

Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are where nearly all visitors end up at some point since they are London’s foremost popular attractions. This is a good point to purchase a ticket; small boating companies have tiny offices all around this area.

One well established company is City Cruises. Their cruises have a multitude of stops where you can hop on and off the boat. Each stop is 5-10 minutes in length; you will therefore have lots of time to see the attractions. When buying a ticket, it is wise to consider the length of time of the entire cruise, calculating all the stops you might want to make. Timetables are always available.

The Thames will leave you enchanted and give you a unique perspective on one of the world’s great heritage.
