Last week’s Britain’s Got Talent saw the unlikely reappearance of the magic trick, with Flute Magic hypnotising judges and audiences. The real-life married couple of Claire and Clive Hodgson brought back to the stage and screen an art of trickery that many thought had seen its last days.

However, thanks to a new website from popular developer ASAP, card tricks are set to become the next big thing all over again. One visit to cardtricks.org.uk will show you all the supplies and tools needed to become a magician.

Whether you are a budding croupier, a magician in training or just someone with a love of cards, there is sure to be something to interest you on the card trick website. With books such as Roberto Giobbi’s Card College to DVD’s showing you how to perform the most outlandish of acts, the site has it all.

There are encyclopaedias dedicated to card tricks and even customer-designed and trick decks, along with special one-off novelties like the current feature product – the Card Thru Card trick deck.

In this unique magical trick, the performer offers up a spread deck of cards, revealing both the front and back to the audience. A spectator, or victim, is chosen and they remove one card and place their signature on its face. This signed card is the put face down onto the table where the artists draws a card of his own – and proceeds to push it directly through the middle of the spectators card.

The magician’s card melts into the performers, leaving the former’s card on the table face down and the signed performer’s card in the hands of the artist. You too can do this for just £8.99.

Apparently the one thing in life that still eludes Simon Cowell is victory in the Eurovision Song Contest – at least according to The Sun and Pete Waterman.

The 2010 version of the famous contest will see Waterman behind the UK entrant along with former pop producing partner Michael Stock of the Stock, Aitken and Waterman triumvirate. According to Waterman, Simon Cowell would be insanely jealous if the British team were to walk away with the top gong. For all his entrepreneurial achievements and musical production fame, Cowell apparently harbours this one secret desire.

Cowell and Waterman have collaborated previously, as both have been judges on Pop Idol, but the latter said in a recent interview that if he won the contest then Cowell would be severely irked as he always wanted to win a Eurovision.

The British entrant will be sung by whoever should emerge victorious from yet another forthcoming reality TV/ game show/ public flagellation exercise entitled Your Country Needs You, although producers of this show have declared that it will be a one-off. The search for the Eurovision representative begins in March so time to tone up those vocal chords kids.

Last year’s effort, an Andrew Lloyd Webber penned song sung by the latest member of the Sugarbabes, Jade Ewen, could only manage fifth place at the Moscow showpiece. Waterman claimed that the failure of Lloyd Webber made him more confident of attempting the project, reasoning that if a knight fails that badly then nobody will notice his own try.

Mark the date in your diary now; for May 29 is when the entertainment might really kick-off.

Newly arrived singing super star Susan Boyle has experienced another side of what it means to be an internationally recognized artist.

The performer came close to having a panic attack when she surprised two men looking into her Scotland home through windows on Christmas evening as the star was relaxing in front of the TV.

Upon spotting them, she immediately confronted the men.

This latest incident may very convince the former Britain’s Got Talent contestant that her little West Lothian council home won’t offer sufficient security to live in peace.

Her fifty-five-year-old brother Gerry said the star had called him to talk about the incident. He admitted being worried for his younger sister as strangers could easily take advantage of her situation.

He revealed that Boyle had not alerted the authorities, adding that the small house was no longer presented a proper dwelling for the super star.

The runner-up at this year’s Britain’s Got Talent show, Boyle had celebrated most of Christmas at her sister’s Motherwell home.

When intruders peered into her home, she was watching TV with her cat Pebbles.

Only a few weeks ago, it emerged that following a lengthy writing campaign, an American fan obsessed with the star simply showed up on her doorstep.

The performer’s brother said Boyle has nothing of value in the house. He added that although she a super star, she still lives modestly, using a ?200 weekly allowance to pay bills and food.

He admitted that she will soon have the money to purchase a new home and that whether she likes it or not, she will have to accept her newly found status. This means no more simple dwellings which offer easy access to intruders.

Her first record, I Dreamed A Dream, did sell four million copies—and will sell much more—but the star still hasn’t received any royalties.

Susan Boyle has described her experience in the finals of Britain’s Got Talent last May as intensely stressful, saying that it was like being in a pressure cooker.

The Scottish singing sensation told reporters that she was completely unprepared for the huge level of media attention she received concerning her singing performances on the show. She admitted to being exhausted.

Boyle said everybody wanted a piece of her as hoards of reporters literally stalked her and camped outside her home.

She explained that it all sort of got out control; she couldn’t even leave her home in peace. American television was present. She said that reporters would just knock repeatedly on her door.

Susan revealed that media intrusion on her life had been extremely upsetting.

She said she felt frightened and very vulnerable, because she was living on her own. The phone rang non stop 24 hours a day. Susan had to change her phone number after the media rang her up during three weeks, preventing her from getting proper sleep.

Boyle admitted that the stress became unbearable and that it caused her to have a nervous breakdown. Susan ended up in The Priory Clinic for treatment immediately after the finals at Britain’s Got Talent.

She said the pressure had affected her vision, her appetite and her sleep. She said it was like a dream had ended. She even admitted not to know how she ended up in clinic. She was so exhausted that she couldn’t think straight.

Terri Seymour, the ex-girlfriend of entertainment mogul Simon Cowell, is said to be pleading with him to cut back on his work, saying that he is just too old to keep up such a demanding schedule.

Cowell turns 50 this year and, according to media reports, has been offered $143.6 million to remain in his role as judge in the popular TV show “American Idol” after his current contract ends in May of next year.

His ex fears, however, that the popular reality TV personality won’t have the time to enjoy his wealth, as he is too busy making money to have a real social life.

She believes that Cowell, who fronts not only “American Idol”, but also the “X Factor” and “Britain’s Got Talent” shows in the UK, will be forced to give up at least one of these commitments in the near future.

Seymour said: “I think all his work is tiring Simon out and he’s finding it hard. He’d hate me saying this but he’s not as young as he used to be. He’s got such a tough schedule and at some point one of the shows will have to give. We’ll just have to wait and see which one.”

In 2009, Cowell started filming the “X Factor” auditions almost immediately after “Britain’s Got Talent” and the recent “American Idol” season ended.

Reports on Friday morning indicated that Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle suffered another breakdown, while on a live tour with other finalists from the TV show.

The 48-year-old Scottish runner-up in the ITV talent competition was seen in a Liverpool hotel clinging on to a balcony and crying out for Pebbles, her cat.

Other guests at the city’s Radisson Hotel reported her behaviour before officials took the popular singer away by a fire escape.

After the finale of the televised competition, Boyle was taken to the Priory Clinic, suffering from exhaustion. She later joined the live show tour.

An eyewitness said that the night before Boyle was seen grabbing onto the railing of an interior balcony at the hotel, screaming: “Where’s my cat? I need my cat.”

She has now pulled out of another live show, after successful performances in both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

A witness at the scene was reported as saying: “She was not in good shape. All she kept shouting was ‘I want my cat, I need my cat’,” adding: “It was very surreal. I think people just felt sorry for her.”

One of the guests at the hotel commented: “She just did not look right. She arrived in a Mercedes but as soon as she got out she ran away from fans and the photographers.”

The guest went on to say: “She seemed to bolt but then she got stuck in the hotel’s revolving doors which looked ridiculous.”

Scottish singer Susan Boyle returned to the Britain’s Got Talent live tour, taking to a Glasgow stage for the tour’s first performance in Scotland, just one day after she pulled out of a Manchester gig.

The 48-year-old unemployed church volunteer, who became an overnight global sensation on the Internet, was warmly received by the audience of 10,000 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. This was Boyle’s first performance for a home crowd since she came in second in the ITV talent show.

Show organisers deployed an unprecedented number of security guards to prevent photographs of Boyle being taken before her performance, and also later when she appeared on stage. She arrived in a black Mercedes, entering through a side door with a jacket over her head to avoid photographs.

Severe media restrictions were also in place, with no photos of her act being permitted.

The singer wowed the sold-out theatre with her performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables”, a song that has become her signature piece since it shot her to international stardom after her audition for the show in April.

At the second gig of the live Britain’s Got Talent tour, singer Susan Boyle was booed by some members of the audience, but she at the end of her performance she received a standing ovation.

As she began to sing “Memory” from the musical “Cats”, the Scottish singer seemed to momentarily lose her way, but the crowd at the Sheffield Arena cheered her on.

Earlier in the night there was a mixed reaction to Boyle from the audience, with some booing coming from a section of the crowd when she was announced. The performance came just two weeks after the singer was admitted to the Priory clinic following her second place finish to dance troupe Diversity in the televised talent content.

There were doubts as to whether Boyle would join the live tour, but they were dispelled when she took the stage at the opening show on Friday night in Birmingham. The 48-year-old appeared again on stage in Sheffield, during the show’s second night.

Boyle, wearing a long, sequined silver dress, began her performance with “Memory”, and followed it with “I Dreamed A Dream” from “Les Miserables”.

She thanked the audience as stood and cheered her performance, even after some stumbling over the words to “Memory”.

Boyle received a standing ovation for both numbers, and waved and blew a kiss to her numerous fans.

Britain’s Got Talent competition runner-up Susan Boyle has been admitted to a private clinic to undergo treatment after being examined by medics under provisions of the UK’s Mental Health Act.

The Scottish singer, who lost the televised talent competition on Saturday night, was taken to the Priory clinic after a medical team was called to her London hotel.

On Sunday, police officers were called to Boyle’s hotel to provide assistance, and she was subsequently taken to the north London clinic by ambulance, which was escorted by the police.

A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at approximately 6pm to a central London hotel to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act. The woman was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance.”

It was revealed on Sunday that Boyle would be taking time off on the advice of her physician, after losing the ITV talent show competition to dance troupe Diversity.

TalkbackThames, the television company responsible for Britain’s Got Talent, released a statement in which it offered Boyle “ongoing support”, after it was reported that she ran amok backstage at the end of the show, shouting: “I hate this show.”

In a victory that stunned millions of viewers, the street dancing group Diversity beat Scottish singer Susan Boyle in the Britain’s Got Talent finale on Saturday night, winning the talent competition.

When the result was announced the members of the dancing group looked shocked as they hugged each other, and Boyle put on a brave face, saying: “The best people won.” She went on to wish them “all the best.”

Ashley Banjo, the 20-year-old choreographer for Diversity, tried to make a comment, but stumbled over his words: “I was saying guys, second!’. When you said our name, honestly I’m going to wake up in a minute.”

The Essex-based group won £100,000 for coming in first, and will be invited to perform at the Royal Variety Show for the Queen.

Following their final performance, judge Simon Cowell commented: “If I had to give marks on that, that is the only performance tonight I would want to give a 10 to. There was not a step out of place, it was sheer and utter perfection what you just did there.”

Judge Amanda Holden said that Diversity had blown the other dance group, called Flawless, “out of the water”, but judge Piers Morgan was not as impressed.

Diversity’s victory meant that UK bookmakers avoided a loss of millions of pounds, as the vast majority of bets to win were on Susan Boyle.
