Indonesia is the world’s best place for entrepreneurs wanting to start a business, according to a BBC survey.

Following Indonesia are the US, Canada, India, and also Australia. They are are seen as being among the next best countries for supporting new businesses. On the other hand though, Colombia, Russia, Egypt, and Turkey are regarded as being the least entrepreneur-friendly.

The survey was conducted for the BBC’s Extreme World programme, which found wide variations in perceptions with regards to how much the different cultures offer help to those just starting up in their countries.

The results are taken from a survey that asked over 24,000 people scattered across 24 countries their feelings on how they were treated overseas and in thier homelands. The participants were asked whether or not innovation was highly valued by those in their country and whether or not it was hard for them to start a business, whether or not they were highly valued, and whether or not people with brilliant ideas are able to execute them while putting them into practice.

Collecting all the answers together as single indexes, Indonesia came out and sealed its place as the most favourable country for entrepreneurs. As mentioned, US, Canada, and Australia were also up near the top.

At the other end of the spectrum, and completely unexpected to be in such a position, was Italy – which finished in the company of nations such as Russia, where corruption is rife and a series of backhanders are required to even get a start.

More Britons emigrated in 2008 than ever before, while new arrivals were also at near record highs.

With the world becoming an increasingly smaller and more accessible place, one website offers a range of helpful advice for anyone considering living or working abroad.

Emigrate.co.uk is the leading UK site for emigration advice, featuring daily updates of news and emigration information along with insightful blogs and valuable how-to guides. The site is a comprehensive library of handy tips for anyone contemplating a move, covering education, visa types and the latest emigration laws in a number of countries, including emigrating to Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, America and Canada.

Visit the site now and you can download a free ebook – ESSENTIAL! 10 Things You Need To Know Before Even Thinking About Emigrating – which can help you decide if emigrating is the right option for you and what to expect.

In the UK, net migration has fallen significantly since 2007 as a direct result of the increase in those choosing to emigrate. While much of this decline can be attributed to EU citizens returning home as the effects of the recession are felt, there is still a sizeable trend towards emigrating to Australia, New Zealand and Canada, all of which have been named among the top countries for expats in a number of surveys in the past three years.

The most common reason for emigration is job-related – in 2008 around 136,000 people emigrated from Britain with a confirmed job to go to, up from 100,000 the previous year. The most common age bracket was 25 -44 years, and Australia, with its stable economy, excellent working conditions and sunny climate, remains a firm favourite.

Guns N’ Roses are preparing their gloves, parkas and boots in order to face the cold – if you think England is cold, you haven’t seen anything yet – winds and snow falls which famously make up the January weather conditions in Canada.

The band has announced a series of tour dates in the North American country which are scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2010.

Guns N’ Roses will kick off the Canadian tour on January13 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, before heading on to other cities including Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto.

Rolling Stone Magazine reported that the Canadian tour is rumoured to be following a string of December shows in Asia, including concerts in Taiwan (Dec 11), Seoul (13), Osaka (16) and Tokyo (19).

Chinese Democracy is Guns N’ Roses’ first release in 15 years. Despite mixed reviews, the album hit third place in America and second place in the UK.

It emerged earlier in October that a legal case had been built against the band claiming they had sampled two tracks by German artist Ulrich Schnauss and used them on Chinese Democracy. Guns N’ Roses’said they vigorously denied the claims.

The band’s last live performance was in Mexico in 2007.

Guns N’ Roses will perform in:

Winnipeg MTS Centre (Jan 13)
Calgary Pengrowth Saddledome (16)
Edmonton Rexall Place (17)
Saskatoon Credit Union Centre (19)
Regina Brandt Centre (20)
Hamilton Copps Coliseum (24)
London John Labatt Centre (25)
Montreal Bell Centre (27)
Toronto Air Canada Centre (28)
Ottawa Scotiabank Place (31)
Quebec City Colisee Pepsi (Feb 1)
Moncton Coliseum (3)
Halifax Metro Centre (4)

The Canadian capital will soon feature another attraction: Calypso Park, which will be the largest water theme park in the country.

During a weekend long open house to present the nearly completed entertainment project to the public, Guy Drouin, president and CEO of the project developer Groupe Village Vacances Valcartier, proudly unveiled the new Calypso Theme Waterpark to the media.

Despite the rather cool October weather in Ottawa, the weekend long test run gave a good excuse for project promoters to turn on the taps for the greatest amusement of the thousands of visitors.

The behind-the-scenes tour also gave visitors an overview of what the theme park will provide to make their day trips a memorable experience. Guests were able to get acquainted with the ticketing and season pass system.

Located about 30 kilometres south-east of Ottawa, the construction of the new waterpark took two years and created more than 100 jobs.

During the peak summer months, the theme park will require 500 full-time seasonal employees to cater to all the different jobs necessary to run the large attraction, such as water safety, food service and customer service positions.

The waterpark will be Canada’s largest, with an area covering more than 100 acres. It will feature 35 different water slides, all using the latest technology. It will also feature Canada’s biggest wave pool, at 50,000 square feet, where swimmers will enjoy 4.5 feet waves. Its landscaped areas will accommodate 4,000 sunbathers and the one-of-a-kind Jungle Run River will permit visitors to meander lazily through a tropical forest river.

The water park is considered a welcomed addition to Ottawa as the Canadian capital lacked this kind attraction.

Calypso Water Them Park opens in June 7 2010. Air Canada offers daily year-round service to Ottawa from Heathrow airport and Thomas Cook serves the city through out the summer.
Please visit www.calypsopark.com for more information.

The Toronto International Film Festival is the set for the debut screening of ‘Under Great White Northern Lights’, The White Stripes’ Canadian tour documentary.

The duo, consisting of former spouses Jack and Meg White, toured Canada in 2007. The Canadian tour had featured quirky moments such a now-famous one note concert given on Newfoundland and a short charity performance in a secret Ottawa venue which got the city buzzing with excitement just before a huge outdoor show in front of 40,000 fans.

The film, directed by video artist Emmett Malloy, basically charts Jack and Meg’s tour of Canada.

The film shows the duo performing at other atypical concert venues such as bowling alleys, boats and city buses. The documentary also features the Stripes 10th anniversary gig in Nova Scotia.

Jack White said that the idea behind the tour and the film, which saw the band literally visit every single (some terribly remote and desolate) province and territory of Canada, was to touch this gigantic frontier next door to their Detroit home.

Although also playing in the usual large scale concert circuits such as Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, the tour brought them to isolate and rugged places including Glace Bay, Whitehorse and Iqaluit, where they ate raw caribou, met tribal elders, trekked along frozen tundra, put on traditional kilts and even tried their hands at canon firing.

Director Emmett Malloy said that the film crew and the band were sometimes working in towns where most people didn’t know who the White Stripes were or what was going on. He added that the locals could feel something big was happening in their small town.

The documentary is set for a general cinematic release, though details still have to be worked out.

Minogue’s tour will also bring her to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto.

The pop star has managed two top 10 hits in America with the likes of The Loco-Motion, reaching number three in 1988, and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head in 2001, which maxed out a seventh spot.

Through her a statement on her website, Kylie Minogue claimed that she had always wanted to perform in America and Canada.

She added: “I know that fans have been waiting a long time for this and I’m thrilled that the opportunity has finally arrived.”

Kylie Minogue’s only hit US album was Fever, launched in 2001, which gained third spot on the album chart in the America.

Just last weekend, Minogue performed an epic show in homage to Abba in London.

Formula 1 is set to return to North American soil after skipping one Canadian Grand Prix.

The company overlooking the Montreal Grand Prix, Grand Prix F1 du Canada Inc., and the Formula one governing body, the FIA, have recently reached a agreement concerning the financial dispute that had forced the cancellation of the Canadian Grand Prix for the 2009 season.

Through a news release, local F1 backer Normand Legault said Canada is now back on the F1 schedule.

“Negotiations with [F1 president Bernie] Ecclestone are going well,” said Raymand Bachand, a Quebec cabinet minister. “The negotiations are actually over, but we haven’t signed anything yet but we’re very confident.”

Prior to its demise, organisers claimed that the Canadian Grand Prix was one of F1’s best-attended races since 2001, with more than 300,000 spectators for the three-day competition, and pulling in 120,000 fans for the Sunday race alone.

The Montreal event, a F1 circuit stop since 1978, is believed to draw $100 million per year in revenues to the city.

Earlier during the year, Canadian officials coming from all levels of government, municipal, provincial and federal, travelled to London to meet with Ecclestone and persuade him to reinstate the F1 stop in Montreal, but he had refused.

At the time, Formula One Management could not come to an agreement with rand Prix F1 du Canada Inc. on a licensing fee, Ecclestone therefore looked elsewhere.

Istanbul took Montreal’s place on the circuit, but the race in Turkey was deemed poor in attendance, attracting only 30,000 on race day.

CBCSports.ca’s John Pudy wrote that “Montreal is a guaranteed sellout, and it is more than a race; it is an event.”

Indeed, the city itself claims huge F1 support and is just a few hours away from other wealthy cosmopolitan centres such as Ottawa, Toronto, New York and Boston.
