Serial offender pop star Pete Doherty has been arrested by police authorities under suspicion of supplying the well-known heiress Robyn Whitehead with fatal drugs.

Doherty was taken into custody to answer preliminary questions in the police inquiry over the tragic death of the heiress, who died in January. The 31-year-old Doherty, lead man of Babyshambles, attended a local police station according to reports by The Sun.

Robyn Whitehead, belonging to the wealthy UK Goldsmith family, was discovered dead in her east London unit, where the 27-year-old budding filmmaker died under suspicious circumstances. Although the coroner has not released an official cause of death, most media sources have alleged that Whitehead died from a lethal overdose of valium, heroin and crack cocaine.

Doherty is believed to have been at the woman’s apartment shortly before her death, with Police alleging that the singer left behind a large stash of drugs. Fellow musician, 28-year-old Alan Wass, was also taken if for questioning after he too was suspected of supplying drugs to Goldsmith. Also arrested, for attempting to pervert the course of justice, was the owner of the unit, 53-year-old Gill Samworth, and friend of Doherty 41-year-old Peter Wolfe.

Whitehead, who had shot a documentary on Doherty’s band The Libertines, was also believed to have filmed the singer and colleagues using crack cocaine and heroin.

Star of seminal 80’s teen classics The Lost Boys and Lucas, Corey Haim, has passed away at the age of just 38. The teenage heartthrob, whose career was stalled by rampant drug abuse, died early Wednesday morning in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank at Providence St Joseph Medical Centre, a medical facility that is popular with young actors.

Police at the scene have advised that no evidence was found that would indicate any foul play, and that they were awaiting the coroner’s autopsy before making any further statements.

Already there is widespread speculation that Haim has become yet another tragic Hollywood victim of overdosing on prescription medication. Police authorities did confirm that Haim had been taking both prescribed and over-the-counter medication at the time of his death. He had also been suffering from flu-like symptoms in recent days.

Haim is best remembered for his partnership with Corey Feldman, leading the pair to be labelled as The Two Coreys, with both seemingly set for celebrated careers on film and the big screen. However, Haim’s descent into drug abuse strained the relationship.

Haim had previously admitted to smoking marijuana while on the set of Lost Boys. He later developed a cocaine and crack habit which led him into several bouts of rehab. As is becoming increasingly common, his illegal drug habit was replaced by a prescription one, with Haim taking both stimulants and sedatives in a bid to overcome the non-prescription habit.

It looks like there may be two concerts celebrating the birthday of Michael Jackson at London’s O2 Arena next month. The first is set for August 29, which would have been the pop icon’s 51st birthday.

A source, who is involved in the scheduling of the concerts, said: “As the schedule stands right now, there will be a second show on August 30.”

According to the source, Jackson’s brothers, Jackie, Jermaine, Jackie, Marlon, and Tito, have been involved in “every part of the concerts’ planning process”, and will be performing at the tribute concerts as well. Indications are that the “Jackson 4” will sing a medley of the top hits earlier performed by the Jackson 5.

The plan for the show was announced on June 27 during a “This is It” tour cast and crew meeting. At that time, director Kenny Ortega said that the tribute would be “what Jackson would have wanted.”

It is thought that rehearsals for the memorial will be held during the first two weeks of August in Los Angeles and then move to London for the week before the concert dates.

No official announcement of the plans has yet been made by AEG.

The promoter behind the Michael Jackson London concert series has revealed that he is hoping to finalise plans for a one-night concert featuring the pop icon’s sister Janet and his brothers.

Randy Phillips, the AEG Live chief executive, said he would be making a decision about whether or not to stage the show later this week about the show, which would be held on 29 August, the date of the late singer’s birthday.

Jackson, who died last month in Los Angeles as he was preparing for 50 London concerts in his “This Is It” comeback series, was due to hold his first show on 13 July at the city’s O2 Arena.

Phillips commented: “The No1 item I’m discussing is This Is It ‘the production’, hopefully with the Jacksons and maybe Janet, and other artists.”

He added: “We have to make some hard decisions this week, otherwise it will be too late to even contemplate doing anything on 29 August.”

The promoter confirmed that he was in discussions with High School Musical director Kenny Ortega about the show. Ortega was the choreographer for Jackson’s Dangerous and History world tours and had been engaged to direct the upcoming concert series.

When the hearse carrying Jackson’s body in its $25,000 gold-plated coffin and the motorcade transporting family and close friends arrived at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, the crowd assembled outside fell silent.

Four helicopters were seen circling the area and in front of the entrance to the arena was a massive heart-shaped wreath which read: “We love you and miss you, Michael Jackson”.

A steady stream of ticket-winning fans, family members and friends entered the Staples Center in a mood of solemnity and sadness, despite the earlier celebratory mood.

Thousands of mourning fans outside the venue were dressed in black, and wore “King of Pop” and “RIP” T-shirts, many with badges depicting Michael Jackson during the Thriller years. Police officers were out in force to keep the crowd under control, but most of the time it seemed almost unnecessary.

Inside, some of the entertainment industry’s top names spoke and performed in honour of the pop idol’s contribution to the music world, in a finale that many are saying was a fitting substitute for his ill-fated comeback concert series.

In March, when tickets for the Michael Jackson London concert series went on sale, they were being called the “hottest-selling ticket on the planet”, selling at the rate of 40,000 per hour. It now seems that in death the King of Pop is even hotter.

More than 1.6 million Jackson fans applied online for the 8,750 free tickets to the memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday. An additional 6,500 passes were to be issued allowing holders to view the service broadcast live on large screens at the adjoining Nokia Theatre.

Registrations were coming in at a rate of 50,000 per hour, or nearly 200 fans looking for every ticket available. Another 2,500 tickets were reserved for family members and friends.

Jesse Jackson, long-time family friend and civil rights leader, said: “I wish he could have seen some of this response when he was alive – that he was so welcome.”

Los Angeles officials estimated that as many as 750,000 fans could congregate in the area, causing gridlock and a financial windfall for the city’s tourist trade.

Area hotels reported that all rooms were sold out, and with many fans coming in from the UK, British Airways reported experiencing a “huge influx” of bookings, with nearly every seat on both direct and indirect services taken.

In news that has sent shock waves around the world, a Los Angeles hospital has confirmed media reports that Michael Jackson, the “King of Pop”, died from cardiac arrest on Thursday, after being rushed to the hospital from his home.

Capt. Steve Ruda of the Los Angeles Fire Department told the Los Angeles Times that when paramedics responded to a 911 call at his home at 12:26pm, the 50-year-old Jackson was not breathing.

Paramedics performed CPR on route to the hospital, according to the newspaper report. A family member said that his mother and his brothers were on their way to the hospital, adding: “[He's in] really bad shape.”

At this time, the cause of Jackson’s death is unknown, although his spokesman had earlier denied reports that he was suffering from cancer, saying that the star was “in the best of health.”

The “Thriller” star, at times bizarre and often plagued by scandals, was working on a comeback recently. He was to perform an unprecedented 50 concerts in London, scheduled to begin later this summer, which sold out as soon as tickets sent on sale.

He burst onto the music scene as a child star with his brothers, in the family musical act The Jackson Five – nearly 40 years ago.

With “Thriller”, Jackson still holds the record for having the largest-selling album in the world. He wowed his fans across the world with mega-hits such as “Billie Jean” and “Rock With You”.
