According to the BBC, Last Saturday night’s broadcast of the Strictly Come Dancing final attracted a total audience of more than 11m viewers.

The BBC One competition’s surprise winner was sports host Chris Hollins was the surprise winner of the BBC One competition, amassing more public votes than rival and runner-up actor Ricky Whittle.

The four dance numbers by BBC sports presenter had been completed with his professional partner, Ola Jordan.

The final competition of Strictly Come Dancing peaked with an audience of 11.7m viewers, where as last years numbers were higher with 13.3m viewers.

This year’s figures equated to 47% of the audience share, compared to 49.6% in 2008.

Hollins, who had been considered to be the underdog for much of the competition, thanked his emotional partner after collecting his prize.

The final performances of both couples had been energetic ones. The thirty-eight-year-old Hollins ended his number while standing on the judges’ table.

Hollings later said on BBC Radio 5 Live that he had become mesmerized by his trophy when returning home in the early morning.

He said he had had “a few drinks and loads of cuddles with various people” before spending an hour “just trying to calm down”.

The reporter plans to participate to the Strictly live series of shows during the new year, but doesn’t bleve he has what it takes for a real dance career, adding that for the moment, he decided to remain with his day job.

Meanwhile, Ricky Whittle, revealed he been suffering from an inguinal hernia during the last episodes of the show, despite impressing the panel of judges with a great lift.

He said he had feared getting dropped from the competition or getting sympathy votes if he had told about his ailment.

The actor said that despite having tremendous pains, he stayed in the competition because this had been his dream.

Whitlle revealed his Hollywood ambitions, stating that he will put an end to his Channel 4 programme Hollyoaks next year to pursue his career in the US.

A Michael Jackson rhinestone-encrusted glove is going on display at a hotel in the Asian gambling destination of Macau. It’s been reported that the hotel paid 350,000 dollars for the iconic accessory at an auction.

The sparkling glove became famous in 1983 as the King of Pop wore it when he performed his now celebrated the world over “moonwalk” dance.

Saturday’s New York auction featured in excess of 70 Jackson items.

Ponte 16 deputy chief executive Hoffman Ma won the glove after bidding for the hotel. Including commission, the Macau gambling resort paid a total of 420,000 dollars for the item.

Owned at 50% by gambling tycoon Stanley Ho through his firm, Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, the five-star hotel has scheduled to open a gallery in the new year to display the glove as well as nine other objects formerly belonging to Jackson and purchased at the auction.

A former Portuguese colony, Macau was returned to China in 1999 and is the country’s only mainland city where casino gambling is allowed.

The decision to bid on the glove had stemmed from several months of discussions amongst senior executives at Ponte 16.

The luxury hotel is hoping the gallery will evolve into a sort of ‘shrine’ for Michael Jackson fans all over Asia.

A Ponte 16 spokeswoman said the hotel aims at creating a gathering spot for the greatest 20th century performer.

The nine other objects won by the resort included drawings of Charlie Chaplin sketched by Jackson when he was a child, a pair of sequin-encrusted socks and a shirt worn during his Thriller video.

The New York auction house had given a pre-sale estimate of 40,000 to 60,000 dollars for the glove. But five months after the death of the mega star, a buying frenzy has emerged.

The event held at the infamous Hard Rock Cafe in Manhattan’s Times Square saw unprecedented prices.

Jackson owned several of these gloves, which at the time, cost only 30 dollars. At another auction in Australia in September, a similar glove sold for only 49,000 dollars.

But the one purchased by Ponte 16 benefits from a special claim to fame. It’s reported to be the first one used by Jackson during a cult “moonwalk” live concert dance.

The X Factor ha come on top and has won the Saturday night ratings battle again, in the process beating Strictly Come Dancing for the second week in a row.

The popular dance show has narrowed the gap a little more with the difference in peak spectators sliding from two million last week to 1.4 million last night.

The viewers for The X Factor this week peaked at 10.1 million, which represents a whopping 40% of last’s night television audience, compared to 8.7 million (or 38%) for Strictly which last night featured former jockey Richard Dunwoody getting his bottom kicked out of the show.

The audience for Strictly peaked at 7.55pm, just before The X Factor kicked off at 8pm.

Last night’s median numbers of viewers The X Factor, which is still only in the first stages of choosing finalists, was 8.9 million, 36% of the total TV audience between 8pm and 9.15pm.

The dance show was left lacking one million viewers behind averaging 7.9 million viewers or 33% of the total audience.

An ITV official said that The X Factor performed really well with the younger viewers, pulling 49% of the 16 to 34 demographic for the entire show, compared to 23% of the same demographic watching Strictly Come Dancing.

Despite Strictly being the viewers’ second choice for the second Saturday in a row, its average viewership climbed by 200,000 on last week’s 7.7 million and its peak stayed even at 8.7 million.

The X Factor saw 600,000 less on its peak audience on last week’s 10.7 million and its average viewership slid 400,000 from 9.3 million last Saturday.

A BBC spokeswoman said: ”We are very pleased that the Strictly Come Dancing audience has remained consistent with a peak of 8.7 million people tuning in.

Giselle may be famous among ballet aficionados but the Seoul Ballet Theater (SBT) is offering the dance performance with a twist this summer.

With choreographer James Jeon at the controls `”She, Giselle” will reinvent the dance character as a mother of illegitimate background but also as a prostitute.

Jeon, in Daehangno on Tuesday, said: “I have enjoyed watching and performing `Giselle’ all my life, but as I started working as a choreographer, I wanted to bring something different, something real.”

All the characters are the same, but the story diverges when Giselle becomes aware that her lover, Albercht, is in reality her half-brother. According to the new interpretation, Giselle’s mother and Albercht’s father had at one point been romantically involved, and when Giselle is presented with the truth, she leaves without telling Albercht about her pregnancy.

While the original work gives spectators a charismatic set of soulful and graceful movements, “She, Giselle” will offer a modernised version with contemporary moves amidst quick jumps and kicks.

The lonely Giselle eventually gives birth to a girl, but the mother has no place to go. She ends up working in a brothel, where Albercht comes searching for the woman. The desperate Giselle gives her baby girl to her mother and finally succumbs to AIDS, forgiving her parents and leaving behind a heartbroken Albercht.

“The choreography is indeed different, and I have many scars and bruises from rehearsing,” said Lim Hye-ji, the ballerina who will play Giselle.
