Following the death of actress and glamour icon Farrah Fawcett, plans are in the works to remake the celebrated and famous 1970s American TV show “Charlie’s Angels”. Fawcett was one of the original stars of the show.

One of the most successful TV programmes of that era, it depicted three young women who worked as private investigators.

Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz all played in a 2000 movie adaptation of the show.

According to US broadcaster ABC, the network which will air the show, Drew Barrymore has been spearheading a push to carry out a modern remake to Charlie’s Angels.

Farrah Fawcett, whose hairstyle became the standard all for young women around the world in the late 70s, gained international fame with the programme by portraying her character, Jill Munroe.

“Farrah’s Story”, a two-hour documentary film charting her battle against cancer, was nominated for an Emmy while being watched by audience of nine million viewers.

The actresses playing the roles originally depicted by Fawcett, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson, still need to be chosen.

One of the producers of the original show, Leonard Goldberg, will be partaking in the remake.

Josh Friedman, who recently adapted the Terminator movie series for television, is scheduled to write the new version.

The 2000 motion picture “Charlie’s Angels” gained immediate success at the box office and was followed by a 2003 sequel “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.” In 2004, producers had considered a remake of the TV show, but the project never materialised.

Fawcett also sold an unprecedented amount of posters, breaking records in the process. He photograph where the actress poses with a red bathing suit is one of the highest grossing images of all time.

From 1973 to 1982, she was married to another American TV icon, Lee Majors, who was the star of The Six Million Dollar Man, which portrayed the exploits of a man partly rebuilt with mechanical parts.

Fawcett was also romantically involved with actor Ryan O’Neal from 1982 until 1997; then from 2001 until her death. The couple had one son, Redmond James O’Neal, born in 1985.

She died in June this year of anal cancer.
