With the English Heritage Festival of History returning this summer, tens of thousands of visitors are expected to descend on Northamptonshire later this month to enjoy the performances to be held at Kelmarsh Hall.

In its seventh year, the festival is set to take place on the 25 July weekend, and will feature 1,000 historical interpreters staging 100 performances that commemorate English history. In addition, there will be daily displays of WWII tanks.

As this year celebrates the anniversary of Henry VIII, guests will also have the chance to observe a colourful and fervent Tudor joust, which will be recreated with costumed knights and courtiers.

Emily Burns, who is the head of events at English Heritage, commented: “It’s by far our blockbuster event of the year. Since its inception seven years ago, the Festival of History has attracted more than 90,000 visitors from across the world. It’s an extraordinary way to spend a summer’s weekend.”

She went on to say: “One minute you’ll be finding out what the Egyptians did with ants eggs, crocodile dung and sheep fat, all in the name of beauty, and the next you’ll be cheering for ‘the soldiers of Waterloo’, as Wellington’s remarkable army, accompanied by impressive Congreves war rocket demonstrations, meet the victors of the Peninsular war.”
