Whatever your pleasure this summer, the best way to look and feel the part is by walking tall, and a new website has the boots to make it happen.

From hitting the town dressed for the catwalk, to hitting the music festivals dressed for practicality, nobody can deny that a great pair of boots can make or break any event. Not keen on heading outdoors or prefer instead to find those comfy ugg boots for next winter? Ladiesboots.co.uk has everything to meet all, from ankle boots to knee highs, winter warmers to chic black elegance.

With popular festivals such as Glastonbury, Wireless and T4 enjoying rare fine spells, the wellies have been thrown back in the cupboard in favour of something more stylish, and those who chose to don a decent pair of leather boots were rewarded with both comfort and style. One such starlet was pop princess Pixie Lott, who wowed the masses at T4 with not just her belted-out hits but also a fantastic pair of black leather biker boots every bit as funky as the songstress herself.

However, festivals and frolicking around the countryside in sturdy footwear are not everybody’s idea of a day or night out, so the fantastic ladies boots site features all the latest in urban and city footwear fashion, with all sizes from UK 3 and up on offer. There are also handy links to your favourite high street retailers in addition to the low-priced selection of quality boots displayed online.

For those who are already looking ahead to the next instalment of the chilly British winter, it’s no secret that now is the time to find the best savings on ladies winter boots, with fur-lined leather numbers and the unrivalled comfort of a pair of ugg boots both to be had for a song in the off-season.

Residents living near a coastal country park are opposing plans to stage music festival this summer which could see as many as 20,000 students from across the country.

Carmarthenshire Council is carrying out negotiations with the people behind Beach Break Live concerning the use of Pembrey Country Park.

Carmarthenshire Council admitted that no decision had been made about the three-day festival which was previously held in Cornwall and Kent. The town council does want to consider the event seriously has it could bring huge benefits to the region.

But local residents opposing the event have initiated petitions which are being circulated in Burry Port and Pembrey.

The Beach Break Live festival was first staged in Cornwall in 2007 although event organisers were forced to move it to a safari park in Kent last year after councillors had denied them planning permission.

Dizzee Rascal and The Zutons had headlined the 2009 edition of the festival which also featured other activities such as sports, dance, arts, games and theatre alongside the concerts as well as the bars and food.

Carmarthenshire Council claimed that a move to Pembrey could be worth £330,000 in local spending by the crowd of 20,000 for things like taxis, site hire, hotels, food suppliers and other event-related services.

But councillor Joanne Davies said putting the event at Pembrey would be crazy, adding that the area is a family orientated park as well as a public beauty spot.

She also said that concerns had been raise about congestion, noise and littering, adding that Festival Fields close to Llanelli which staged the 2000 National Eisteddfod would represent a better option for the festival.

A county council representative said discussions were being held with the event organisers and communication had been initiated with authorities in both Cornwall and Kent.

A Glasgow theatre has been scene of a candlelit vigil carried out by three hundred people protesting against the presentation of a play in which Jesus is portrayed as a transsexual.

The protesters gathered outside the Tron Theatre, where the play ‘Jesus, Queen of Heaven’, is being staged.

The play is in one of the events of a festival celebrating Scotland’s gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transsexual communities. Glasgay! According to festival organisers, doesn’t aim at inciting or offending anyone.

The publicity for the play introduces the transgender ‘Jesus’ with “her sayings, her miracles and her testimony”.

Ahead of the play’s debut on Tuesday night, Christian protesters had gathered outside the venue, singing religious hymns and brandishing large signs on which the phrases “Jesus, King of Kings, Not Queen of Heaven” and “God: My Son Is Not A Pervert” were written.

Scheduled to run until this Saturday, the play was authored and will be performed by the transsexual playwright Jo Clifford.

Festival promoters said the banners were quite provocative, adding that they could be viewed as homophobic.

Glasgay! producer Steven Thomson explained that the play ‘Jesus, Queen of Heaven’ is a literary fiction piece which aims to explore the author’s own personal spiritual journey as a transgender person.

Thomson said that Glasgay! respects the people’s right to freedom of expression and provides festival goers with a diverse view of the LGBT lifestyle. He added that the play hasn’t been created and presented to offend anyone of any belief system. But he said that the festival organisers do respect the right to disagree with the philosophy behind Glasgay!

Glasgay! has benefited from funding by the Event Scotland, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Scottish Arts Council and Glasgow City Council.

London is poised to host its 53rd annual Film Festival.

The 15 day big screen extravaganza is scheduled to take place in several locations across the capital, featuring talent from the UK as well as internationally recognised film talent.

The London Film Festival this year showcases 191 features and 113 short films at 17 different venues.

Thanks to a nearly £2m of Lottery funding, this year’s edition is financially supported by its long-time contributor the UK Film Council.

Festival programmer Michael Hayden said the injection of funds has given organisers the chance to grow the festival.

He added that the extra money gives the Festival the opportunity to host awards and gala screenings plus it boosts the efforts of the event to make it the festival of festivals.

During past editions, small imaginative and innovative prizes had been awarded to film makers, but the funds from the Lottery will ensure for the first time that the festival will close in grand style with a proper award ceremony.

The festival opens with the world premiere of ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ , the Wes Anderson’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s.

Other notable film not to miss this year is ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’, a comedy about the American military, starring George Clooney, Kevin Spacey and Ewan McGregor.

Nick Park’s Wallace and Gromit is celbrated this year to mark the animation series’ 20th anniversary. Also, Trafalgar Square is set to present a string of free screenings of short films.

London film buffs will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with some Hollywood royalty, as Julianne Moore and Clive Owen are scheduled to hold public question and answer sessions at the BFI on the Southbank.

Previous editions of the festival had struggled to sell all the tickets to screenings but organisers are hoping with the increase in theatres and extra money support, its interesting mix of world cinema will pull in record audiences.

The Hogmanay party on the streets of Edinburg will be downsized in capacity by 25% and the kick off to its Holiday festivities reduced because of tramway construction work.

It is expected that, because of financing problems and uncertainty about the city centre capacity over the New Year period, the festival will have 25,000 tickets less than usual from the city’s celebrations.

This could have huge repercussions for the city’s economy as the festivities, which had enjoyed a 100,000 capacity since the beginning of the Millennium, normally generate about £40 million for the local Edinburg economy.

It is still not known if the ticket prices, which cost as much as £17 in 2008, will be increased to help compensate for the shortfall. For last year’s edition of Hogmanay, an excess of 10,000 tickets were left unsold.

The high-profile event for the Scottish capital’s Christmas celebrations, which includes the festival’s famous “winter wonderland” and giant Ferris wheel, for the first time is being scheduled for a weekend to permit roadwork to be completed.

Buses will be gone from Princes Street until 5am on Sunday 29 November, which is later than most local shops had been calling for.

However the Edinburg council, marketing agencies and business organisations have in the works the city’s largest ever Hogmanay promotional campaign as a boost to help them recover from the results of the tram construction work.

A promotional drive titled The “Edinburgh Sparkles” will promote the Hogmanay festivities as one of the country’s top party destinations following a final decision to permit buses back on to Princess Street during Christmas.

One source at the Edinburg city council meeting said that there was almost unanimous backing for resuming the normal traffic of buses on Princes Street as soon as possible.

Tickets for 2010 edition of the Glastonbury music festival are now available.

Festival-goers who have already registered with concert promoters by Friday can now purchase their tickets.

Next year’s event will mark the 40th anniversary of the festival, which is scheduled held at Somerset’s Worth Farm.

The 2009 version of the Glastonbury festival attracted 137,000 music enthusiasts and presented world class acts like Blur, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young. This year’s festival was hailed as one of the top by both organisers and organisers alike.

Michael Eavis, co-promoter Michael Eavis of the Glastonbury festival said of nest year’s event that the expectations were really high and that they were trying to get the best talent the world’s got to offer.

The 2010 edition to the Glastonbury music festival will take place between June 23 and June 27. The full weekend festival tickets are £185, an increase of £10 over last year and a £5 booking fee is added to the total.

In order to combat touting, the festival organiser introduced a registration system, which does not ensure a ticket, in 2007.

In 2009, festival-goers were able to prolong their registration for three extra years.

People who previously had a registration can check online to verify if It’s still active.

Please visit www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk for more details.
