The star-studded charity track which was recorded for the victims of the Haiti earthquake victims has made its radio debut.

The project spearheaded by British pop music guru Simon Cowell and attracting the participation of 21 of some of the top performing artists today took less than a fortnight to complete for planning to its airing on radio today.

Stars such as Take That, Susan Boyle and Kylie Minogue took part in the making of the cover of Everybody Hurts by American 90s iconic band REM.

Cowell managed to easily pull strings in the business to arrange the single project to take root.

The various singers take turns at being featured as the main vocalist, starting with former X Factor winner Leona Lewis, followed by rock legend Rod Stewart, American R and B singer Mariah Carey, Cheryl Cole, Mika and Canadian performer Michael Buble.

The single was recorded in two locations. Some singers lent their voices for the track in London, while others, such as Robbie Williams, was part of the Los Angeles sessions.

Alexandra Burke — another X Factor winner – as well as James Morrison, were called into Trevor Horn’s Sarm Studios in the London district of Notting Hill – where in 1984, the original fund-raising Band Aid song was recorded.

The other artists that took part the project are Jon Bon Jovi, Miley Cyrus, James Blunt and members of Westlife and JLS and the rising star Susan Boyle.

REM has waived the copyright fees for the use of their songs.

The proceeds of the single will go to two charity organizations: the Sun’s Helping Haiti fund and the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Everybody Hurts will be available for download on February 7 and will be in shops in a cd form the following day.

A benefit concert for Haiti relief on Sunday performed by contemporary rock band Radiohead raised more than £350,000.

The Los Angeles gig, a one-off show, was void of any television cameras and marked Radiohead’s first performance since their performance at the Reading festival last year.

The band, which is in the middle of creating their eighth studio record, had announced the charity gig Friday of last week – only about fifty hours before hitting the stage.

According to the Los Angeles Times, concert tickets were sold at an online auction and each fetched between $475 (£293) and $2,000 (£1,230) each.

The intimate concert, before a select crowd including notable Hollywood players such as fellow performer Justin Timberlake and actresses Drew Barrymore and Jessica Biel, was played in front of only 1,300 people.

The band performed through a dozen hits, two encores as well as a new track – Lotus Flower, which Thom Yorke had previously sang at his solo gig.

Later during the evening, he was handed a card which read “$572,774”, the total amount raised by the amount. Proceeds will go to charity organization Oxfam.

The Radiohead charity Hollywood concert was part of an ongoing fundraiser programme organized by Oxfam which also included auctions for memorabilia donated by other famous bands such as Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay.

Fans have until 2 February to participate in the auction.

Coldplay, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Shakira confirmed to perform at Hope For Haiti gigs on Friday January 22.

The performances are schedule to take place in London, New York and Los Angeles amidst a telethon organized to raise funds aimed at helping for the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.

According to MTV news, the London gig will feature Coldplay, U2’s Bono and The Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna. MTV is set to air the concerts.

On the other side of the pond, acts schedule to appear in New York include Bruce Springsteen, Shakira, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, and Sting. Wyclef Jean will host that show.

George Clooney, who came up with idea for the telethon, is set to host the Los Angeles gigs, where Alicia Keys, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift are among the acts scheduled to perform.

Jay-Z and U2 are said to be planning the production of a single to assist in the effort as has Simon Cowell, who is preparing a single likely to be performed by Cheryl Cole.

Last week, the Carribean island nation of Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake which measured 7.1 on the Richter Scale. The disaster is rumoured to have killed at least 50,000 people and has injured countless others.

So far, more than 120 ‘miracle’ survivors have been rescued from the rubble by international teams. But it’s been revealed that less than 8percent of the people in need of food have received help.
