Seminal indie group The Stone Roses played the first of their planned reunion gigs to an ecstatic crown of fans last night.

The four-piece put on a surprise show, which which was watched by 1,000 people, at the tiny venue of Parr Hall located in Warrington. Andrew Rudder, from Ashton Under Lyne, commented that the Mancunians had never performed so well together, although this view might have been contested by Liverpudlian Tom Six, aged 35, who criticised singer Ian Brown’s vocals before pointing out that the frontman had always had a terrible voice.

Brown’s famously shambolic performances on the microphone before the Stone Roses called it a day in 1996 have become a thing of music legend. Dennis Warriner, aged 50 from York, thought that the performance started off a little ropey but definitely went better as time went on.

The hour-long set consisted of 11-songs, the first of which was the album opener from the band’s self-titled debut – I Wanna Be Adored. Other favourites from the 1989 landmark LP included Waterfall, She Bangs the Drums, and Waterfall, with just two songs, Tightrope and Love Spreads, performed from the group’s second and last album, The Second Coming.

It was the first time that Brown, John Squire, Gary “Mani” Mounfield and Alan “Reni” Wren had performed as a band since 1990, as the latter mentioned member was kicked out of the group due to incidents related to heroin addiction before the group disbanded. Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, who is known to have been heavily influenced by Brown, was one of many music stars in the crowd.

The BRIT awards were dominated by Lady Gaga, who took home three top honours but her usual stage antics were overshadowed by yet another petulant outburst by Liam Gallagher.

The Poker Face songstress won in the categories of International Female Solo Artist, International Breakthrough Act and International Album, prompting host Peter Kay to suggest that the only award she did not win was International Male – a rather poor attempt at humour relating to hermaphrodite allegations. Despite the quip, Lady Gaga proved more human that former Oasis front man Gallagher who derided the voters who named the band’s ‘What’s the Story Morning Glory’ album as the greatest of the past 30 years.

Lily Allen, who won British Female Solo Artist, was also un-ladylike when prompted to wind up her acceptance speech told organisers to f**k off. The British music industry once again showed its class, or lack thereof, on the international stage, further highlighted by Brit boy band JLS taking out two of the night’s top awards – British Single and British Breakthrough Act. Dizzee Rascal won best British Male Solo Artist in one of the evening’s more triumphant moment, a groundbreaking victory for hip hop, while British Album was won by Florence and the Machine.

The real story of the evening, however, was the behaviour of Liam Gallagher who refused to acknowledge his brother Noel in taking credit for the band’s success, before irking the crowd by throwing both the award and the microphone into the audience – prompting frantic pleas for their return by organisers. Gallagher also said he was unsure if Oasis actually deserved the honour but if the voters wanted to play this game then he’d be happy to turn up. He then expressed thanks that the whole thing was over and asked if he could now go and take lots of Class A drugs. If you’re going to throw your toys in public you should stay home. Forever.

Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and his new band planning to release their first studio project sometime in July.

The performer said that his new band, which comprises of ex-Oasis bandmates Gem Archer and Andy Bell, had written a total of eigh track and were looking to heading to a studio very soon.

During his interview with XFM, Gallagher said several of the new songs were already written when Oasis split.

The singer said that the band was planning studio time in April under the guidance of a producer. He revealed that three of the songs would be recorded with him as test and that the rest of the album would be complete with the same producer if the work was satisfying.

Gallagher revealed that he was anxious to head out with the new band, which remains nameless, adding the fact that Oasis had ‘only’ generated seven albums was regretful.

The performer managed to had a few indirect coments which were clearly directed at his brother Noel, who quit the band on a final and dramatic storming-out minutes before a show in Paris last year.

Gallagher branded ‘poor’ the quantity of work created by the band during its some 18 years together. The singer chastised Oasis for taking so long to write and record new material.

He said that “seven albums for Oasis is not good” adding that Ian Brown is already on his seventh solo record.

Gallagher revealed that he feels Oasis should have created better, more important albums.

Meanwhile, it was announced this week that Oasis had been nominated for three NME 2010 awards including Best British Band.

A tentative 2010 goal set for a Kinks reunion.

Former Kinks frontman Ray Davies has announced to reporters that he has begun to mend the legendary rock band together again after their split 13 years ago.

Davies revealed that he’s working on some demos with the contribution of the original rhythm line up. He said that a reunion tour will stem from the quality of these new tracks.

One important factor, Davies said, is whether his brother joins him for the venture, adding that the project must ride on new material in order to be successful.

His brother Dave had a stroke five years ago. However, Davies said he is now well enough to plan for some solo concerts scheduled for next year.

Davies said he has no desire to just perform golden oldies, adding that this kind of thing is absolutely not interesting for him.

Davies said a musician must feel he or she can make new material.

Recently, the performer has been involved in a series of different projects.

Davies acoustically performed and explained his classic songs in two episodes of Songbook, a Sky Arts music show.

On his latest release, the Kinks Choral Collection, Davies is backed by a choir. He said of that album that it had moved him forward and backwards at once.

He said that he was surprised by the effect brought on by the choir on several of the songs. He added that he did not want to simply remake old songs.

Coming from a band where two brothers made the chore, Davies commented on the Oasis break up, saying that it would extremely sad if the Gallaghers couldn’t make amends and regroup.

He added that a rivalry amongst siblings is inevitable and that people simply experience fall outs.

He talked about his own relationship with his brother Dave, saying that the two had been falling out for years. But now that they’ve stopped paying together, they’ve stopped having arguments.

Davies explained that it can useful, saying that an album like ‘All Day and All Of The Night’ required an element of tension to be successful.

The rock star claimed he has been working on several new tracks with ex-Oasis bandmates Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Zak Starkey during an interview in Italy.

According to Gallagher, the new material far exceeds what he and the rest of the band had produced in the past.

He said plans where floating around for studio time after Christmas with album hopefuly ready for July.

Gakkgher expressed the desire to do thing differently this time, attempting to reconnect with music with a new act and new tracks, adding that the songs made him feel very confident.

The words he used to describe the material were “a million percent better” than the old Oasis songs.

Liam revealed that his brother Noel is very much on his mind and the split of Oasis brought sadness.

He said he love his brother “to bits” although the pair cannot get along, admitting that they had never really benefited from a close relationship. Despite being in the band, he said each would their own things, each with a different set of friends.

Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher is set to start a new band and has announced that he has no desire to pursue a solo career.

The ex-frontman, whose song writer brother Noel has already announced plans for a solo career, is planning to lauch a new group in the New Year.

Liam said that he believed it will a good thing to put some distance between himself and the entire Oasis thing. Liam told reporters that he didn’t want to do any solo projects, adding that he wanted to be in bands. He said that although things could be done differently these days, the new band would definitely be rock ‘n’ roll.

Liam claimed that he’s ready to launch a new band as soon as January, despite having made plans for a short hiatus from music

The singer said that he’s only planning to relax at home for the near future and just avoiding the music business for a little while and then January will set the stage for a new and different project.

Last August spelled the end of Oasis when Noel walked out on the band claiming major differences with his brother. But even with all that has gone wrong with the band, Liam still admitted to be missing those days.

Liam said he would always miss Oasis, adding that he had considered the band to be his own personal ‘thing’ and that’s who he is.

But he said Oasis is just a name and that didn’t take away from who he is.

He added that has music within his soul.

Currently busy pushing his Pretty Green fashion ware, the singer also revealed that although is carrying out other projects, music remains at the centre of his life.

The Rolling Stones have been named by the bookies to be the favourites to headline at the closing of next year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Although organisers haven’t announced any acts for the 2010 edition of the Glastonbury festival, all the tickets for the grand event have sold out within 12 hours of being made available to the public and now bookmakers and fans alike have started the rumour mill with speculations on which band or performer is most likely to close the final night of the event.

Rupert Adams, an official with the online betting company William Hill, said that they had lost a bit of money on the Glastonbury headline act for two years in a row adding that this results will prove to be interesting.

The bookmakers have The Rolling Stones listed as the number one pick with 4 to 1 odds to be booked for the Sunday night show in 2010, with Coldplay and David Bowie neck and neck as second favourites with 8 to 1.

Funny enough, Oasis, despite being without guitarist Noel Gallagher, are still considered to be contenders, ranked at 33/1.

Adams said of the Gallagher brothers that they may believe that the split is premanent but they still may change their mind and the Glastonbury festival would be the perfect event for reconciliation.

Here’s are list of the top acts who are considered by bookmakers for the closing date of the event:

Rolling Stones 4/1
Coldplay 8/1
David Bowie 8/1
Muse 10/1
U2 12/1
Artic Monkeys 12/1
Radiohead 14/1
Prince 16/1
Elton John 16/1
Red Hot Chilli Peppers 16/1
Kings Of Leon 16/1
Green Day 20/1
Robbie Williams 20/1
Stone Roses 20/1
Madness 25/1
Spandau Ballet 25/1

It’s only been a few days since Oasis guitarist and song-writer Noel Gallagher has left the band and already the remaining members are apparently starting to feel chilly at the prospect of being “left alone” with brother Liam.

Liam Gallagher is presently on holiday in Italy’s Lake Como joined by his missus Nicole Appleton. Since Noel’ departure, the plan had appeared to be relatively simple for the remaining members; take a break, re-group and pretend nothing ha happened. Fat chance.

The latest reports say that any plans for a new edition of Oasis could disappear without a trace.

A source close to the band has been saying that it was always on the cards that Noel was to quit. The other band members saw it coming the night before he walked out.

According to the source, some band members have already begun searching for new pastures, as they have no clue how the new edition of Oasis would function. Now that Noel has left, no one knows how they’ll stand Liam.

These are turbulent times for band members Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock. The source adds that these guys saw how Liam treated Noel, and they have their doubts it can survive.

Noel announced he was quiting the band after an argument with Liam just minutes before they were scheduled to play in Paris. In the process, Liam is reported to have destroyed a guitar and yelled obscenities at Noel.

Britpop giants Oasis and glam-rockers The Killers are set to perform at the V Festival next week.

The immensely popular double header festival, held from August 22 to 23, will be staged at Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in Staffordshire.

Organisers shortlisted bands to win a popularity contest that the public had to vote for before two winning musical acts were announced.
