HYPERACTIVE children and those suffering from attention-deficit disorders are now allowed to queue jump at UK theme parks because of the stress of waiting is too difficult to handle.

UK tourist boards have the privilege on offer so that these children can jump the queue with their friends.

Teachers have criticised the plan, explaining that this will undermine their attempts to encourage patience and it would be a greater advantage for children with ADHD, hyperactive disorder and attention deficit, to learn how to wait.

Kids with ADHD, which has been recognised as a psychiatric condition for 15 years, are offered special passes in most UK theme parks as well as many abroad upon proof of the condition.

Andrea Bilbow, chief executive of the National Attention Deficity Disorder Information and Support Service, claims that the plan avoids tantrums.

She said that Children with ADHD are very impulsive and just can’t cope in a queue or when there is a delay in gratification. Many primary schools let them go ahead at dinner time and it stops scenes, she added.

Miss Bilbow said people who criticise the tactic demonstrated that teachers lacked knowledge of the condition.

The Disability Discrimination Act forces attractions to cater to the needs of all visitors.

People suffering from ADHD have a 30% “maturity lag” and their mental development is stunted until they reach about 26 years of age.

In a move which astonished many, Walt Disney Company is planning to buy Marvel Entertainment. The deal, valued at $4 billion in cash and stock, would be the next major move by the American entertainment giant since its 2006 acquisition of Pixar Animation and gives the Mouse House an entire portfolio of Marvel characters.

Marvel’s characters are already involved in a string of complex licensing agreements (Sony Pictures with Spider-Man 4 web-crawling deal for 2011, while 20th Century Fox holds rights to more X-Men projects), but Disney is prepared to participate in a lengthy game. In the short term the company wants to use the likes of Iron Man and Hulk for its theme parks. Disney CEO Bob Iger explains that creative officials from Marvel and Pixar have already met. ‘The groups got excited pretty fast. The sparks will fly.’

Ironically, X-Men and Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee’s company Pow! Entertainment has a first look agreement with Disney. ‘I couldn’t be happier with this agreement,’ he says. ‘From every possible point of view, the merger of Disney and Marvel is a match made in heaven.’

Disney has convinced analysts that it plans to let Marvel have artistic control for its properties. Although Marvel’s top characters are valuable to Disney’s movie, theme park and home entertainment businesses, the future will tell if the family-oriented media giant will lend a supportive hand to Marvel’s comic book undertakings in the long term. Could this agreement signify the end of Marvel as a comic book player?

Wales possesses the ideal pair of National Parks: lonely, stirring mountain landscapes in the in the north; corrugated coastline bursting with wildlife to the south.

Squeezed between the Cambrian coasts and the North, the core of Snowdonia National Park is located into a corner of Wales. The visitor will find mysterious gorges where only fast-flowing streams break through the serenity. You can also learn something new: at the National Mountain Centre in Plas y Brenin, (01690 720214; pyb.co.uk ) a two-hour “taster” climbing class allows the student to go up to 40ft in 120 minutes with help from an expert. Mountain leadership and Mountain biking courses are also available.

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park boasts some of Britain’s prettiest shoreline, from the south-west tip of Wales in Carmarthen Bay to Cardigan Bay. Many activities are related tp water, such as sea-kayaking, surfing, and coasteering. On the dry side, a great vacation could include a hike through the 186-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which will reveal all the delights of the Park. For a tasted of the very best, board a small ferry from the small cove of Martin’s Haven (01646 603110; dale-sailing.co.uk ) to Skomer, a diamond-shaped island only two miles long home to half-million breeding seabirds.
