After conducting an exhaustive months-long search, Warner Bros. has revealed that it has chosen the popular actor Ryan Reynolds to play the title role in its upcoming live-action movie “Green Lantern” – based on the DC Comics hero.

Reynolds’ representatives were said to have begun negotiations regarding the role on Friday, after two rounds of screen tests were held. Other actors involved in the screen tests included Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto and Justin Timberlake.

Martin Campbell will direct the film, which is being produced by Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti.

Apparently De Line, Campbell and Warner Bros. all had a different favorite for the lead role, which contributed to the length of the search process.

If negotiations are concluded successfully, Reynolds would become the only Hollywood actor to play both Marvel and DC comics heroes. The actor recently starred as Deadpool in 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. The character is now being developed for a spin-off movie in which Reynolds will star. He was Marvel’s Hannibal King, the vampire hunter, in “Blade: Trinity”.

“Lantern” will be the second time Reynolds is connected with playing a DC Comics : just a few years ago, he was chosen to play the speedster “The Flash”.

The new Sandra Bullock film is proving to be a hit with moviegoers as “The Proposal” takes the lead at the box office.

Bullock stars in the romantic comedy alongside Ryan Reynolds, which shot to first place in its debut weekend, taking in $34.1 million.

In the Disney production, Bullock plays a tough publishing executive who forces her assistant to marry her so she can avoid being deported to her native Canada.

On her trip to Alaska to meet her future bridegroom’s family, things get a bit out of hand.

Mark Zoradi, president of the Disney movie group, said: “I think the market was ready for a really fun, broad romantic comedy.”

Sexually-charged ads for the movie, which feature the two main characters naked, seem to have attracted large numbers of moviegoers.

“The Proposal” took over the top spot from “The Hangover,” last week’s number one. It took in $26.9 million, increasing the film’s total earnings to $152.9 million.

“Up”, Pixar’s animated adventure, was in third place, taking in $21.3 million, for $224.1 million in total earnings. This total makes “Up” the second film, after “Star Trek” to pass the $200 million earnings mark this year.

“Year One”, the caveman comedy, rounded out the top four films. It stars Jack Black and Michael Cera.
