The Thames: one of the most famous rivers in the world.

It captures most people’s imagination as it weaves it way through London passing at the feet of the Houses of Parliament and under Tower Bridge.

Taking a guided tour along the River Thames is probably the best way to see and learn about the beautiful historic capital city. Whether you’re first time visitor in London or a resident, there’s always something new that’s best appreciated from this lovely river.

River tour tickets can be bought online before you visit London and you can save a little money by doing so. But word to the wise; it may be better to purchase your ticket directly on site as gale force winds might discourage a few timid sailors.

I recommend you purchase your ticket on the day you wish to visit directly at the riverside and try saving some money by combining the tour with sightseeing options at various stops such as the Tower of London and Greenwich. It’s also a good idea to purchase tickets that give access to the boat the entire day, getting on and stopping where ever and when ever you please.

Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are where nearly all visitors end up at some point since they are London’s foremost popular attractions. This is a good point to purchase a ticket; small boating companies have tiny offices all around this area.

One well established company is City Cruises. Their cruises have a multitude of stops where you can hop on and off the boat. Each stop is 5-10 minutes in length; you will therefore have lots of time to see the attractions. When buying a ticket, it is wise to consider the length of time of the entire cruise, calculating all the stops you might want to make. Timetables are always available.

The Thames will leave you enchanted and give you a unique perspective on one of the world’s great heritage.
