Wyclef hospitalised after exhausting 8 months

Posted on September 28, 2010

Hip-hop singer Wyclef Jean is at home resting after being taken to hospital with stress and exhaustion. According to the star’s publicist, Marian Salzman, Jean, who has recently dropped out of the race to become the new president of Haiti, is extremely tired following his hard-fought campaign.

The former Fugees member was forced to withdraw his bid to be the next president of the earthquake-rocked country after its election committee ruled that he did not qualify to run. They said that Haitian law stipulates that any candidate must have lived in the country for at least five consecutive years.

Jean was born in Haiti but moved to the New York as a child and is classed as a US citizen. Since an earthquake devastated the country in January this year, however, he has been working tirelessly to help rebuild infrastructure and increase aid.

Jean is now at home resting after being released from hospital and is expect to return to work in around a week’s time. His family released a statement asking for his fans to bear with him while he regains his strength.

The breakdown has been blamed on sleepless nights, stress, global travel and constantly being in the public eye. As well as his campaigning for Haiti, Jean is now working on a new album called ‘If I were President: The Haitian Experience.’ The record is set for release sometime next year.
